Salim was nominated for his personal contribution towards advancement and expansion of access to satellite communications in Africa. Additionally, Salim was recognized for promoting the use of innovative approaches of the communications industry in Africa.
The awards tagged "SATCOM Africa Stars", according to the organizers, was designed to identify and reward those companies as well as individuals who have demonstrated an unparalleled ability to succeed, continually set standards of excellence, and who will be the future stars of the industry.
Winning a "SatCom Africa Stars" is seen as a recognizable standard of industry excellence” according to the organizers.
They equally said the introduction of the awards is a design to celebrate the continued growth and success of the satellite market place and focus on some of the exceptional performers within the industry.
The winners of the awards are the industry's most successful and innovative companies, entrepreneurial individuals as well as its regulators and policy-makers.

IWAY HOLDS AN EXECUTIVE DISTRIBUTOR CONFERENCE
Afsat Communications recently held the iWay Executive Distributor conference from the 1stto the 6th of September 2008. The theme for this year’s iWay Executive distributor conference was Celebrating the Winning Spirit. To celebrate the winning spirit of iWay, Afsat took the opportunity to reward its distributors for outstanding performance in various categories. These awards were aimed at celebrating Afsat’s recent wins and recognition of the role played by the distributor. A total of 28 African countries comprising the iWay distributors and Subsidiaries were represented during conference.
The conference was unique in that it gave an opportunity for iWay distributors undergo training in leadership which was facilitated by Mike Harper, a well renowned trainer in strategic leadership from Harper Consulting Inc.
The conference culminated into a gala dinner where for the first time Afsat Communications recognized distributors who had shown outstanding performance for the last 12 months prior to the conference.
The various Award categories included;
Distributor who achieved the highest Net Revenue Growth within the year
Distributor who achieved the highest Billing
Distributor with the lowest excess volume usage
Distributor with the highest Customer Satisfaction rating for the year
This year winners were;
iWay Nigeria - won the award for the Distributor who achieved the highest Net Revenue Growth within the year.
MS telecom of Angola – won the Distributor who achieved the highest Billing,
Lobinet of Angola - won the Distributor with the lowest excess volume usage
Callkey East Africa of Kenya - won the Distributor with the highest Customer Satisfaction rating for the year.
Various personalities too were honoured during this special event including Mr. Salim Suleman, The Group Managing Director for his outstanding performance and contribution in the Telecommunications industry including the Strategy Director for Afsat Communications, Mr. Heinrich Nothnagel.

AFSAT Communications Tanzania receives commendation from White house
The Afsat Tanzania team recently received commendation certificates and medals
from The White house Communications Agency following iWay’s outstanding service
during America’s President Bush’s recent visit to Tanzania.
